Mission Statement:
Our goal is to give readers the tools to make informed choices about local products and
services    We want to help people take the steps to a sustainable lifestyle by answering the
questions of “Where, Why and How” to save resources in our community.

Where
Local eco minded businesses operate in ways that solve, rather than cause, both environmental and social problems. These businesses adopt principles, policies, and practices that improve the quality of life for their customers, their employees, communities, and the environment.  In order to be placed in our “Where to Buy-Local” listings a minimum criteria* rating must be achieved.  We are encouraging our local businesses to exceed this rating.
*Criteria: Minimum 2 1/2 pts. for listing

1. Locally Owned (1/2 pt.) Half of the ownership must be residents of a community located within 75 miles from Central Lucas County
2. Located in Area (1/2 pt.) Business or organization must be located within 75 miles from Central Lucas County
3. Sells or distributes a “Green” Product or Service (1/2 pt.)
4. Participates in Recycling (1/2 pt.)
5. Uses an Eco-Friendly or Natural Product in Day-To-Day Operation (1/2 pt.)
6. Member of a Local Organization that Encourages Sustainability (1/2 pt.)
7. Uses Renewable Energy – Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Bio-Product (1 pt.)
8. Creatively “Green” (1 pt.)

Why
Most natural resources can be depleted and could be gone forever if conservation is ignored.  By protecting our local resources we can provide a healthy environment for ourselves and future generations.

How
Local, Local, Local.    Buying Local creates jobs, saves money and adds to our quality of life.  If individuals, families, business, organizations and government can take scheduled small steps towards sustainability, we can build a place where people take pride in being a part of a healthy, happy community.
