Homewood Press - Local Business - Eco Partner
Going green is not a new concept at Homewood Press. Over the past seven years, the Toledo based printer has focused on doing its part to protect the environment and conserve resources. In addition to recycling paper and inks, the company offers green printing alternatives and participates in several sustainable forest initiatives. In fact, Homewood Press is the only area printer to receive certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), and the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGPP).
On December 9, Homewood Press had a wind turbine raising ceremony. Tapping into the wind's power with a 60 foot tall Skystream generator, the unit will connect directly to the power grid and provide a portion of the electrical needs for Homewood Press's new energy efficient facility.
Planning for the turbine produced some negative energy. The process showed that government cooperation is not yet friendly. According to Scott Dubuc, "until we piggy-backed with the Toledo Zoo's new turbine, there was a doubt whether we could raise our tower".
"Our commitment to the environment enables us to be part of our customers' green initiatives, too," explains Mark Dubuc, CFO of Homewood Press. "We set out to find ways to reduce our environmental footprint. And through these efforts, we have become smarter, leaner and more resourceful in the way we work. So, we're able to provide many environmentally friendly options when it comes to our customers' printing needs."
Homewood Press is a full-service commercial printing house serving area businesses for more than 70 years. With multi-color presses and finishing processes, the company offers the capabilities to print materials ranging from brochures and annual reports to catalogs and packaging.
